Welcome

KRYSTELEb

The aim of this website is to share some of the travels and projects that I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy, and keep you up to date on my adventures. It replaces the different blogs I’ve kept about my experiences.

Welcome to the great adventure!

Krystèle BODET

My hiking adventures started out during summer holidays with my friend Sarah, always based on the same principle: we backpacked, used local transport, and spent seven to ten days hiking on our own, which usually involved meeting people living in the mountains. Our travels have taken us through the mountains of Guatemala, the Indian Himalayas, Peru,  Bolivia, Kyrgyzstan and, in 2014, Georgia. In 2011, we also tried a bike trail through the hills in New Zealand.

In 2009 Sarah and I were keen to try a different kind of adventure that tested our map-reading and piloting skills... and our strength of mind: the Rallye Aicha des Gazelles.

I attempted my first long-distance hike for two months in Morocco starting in June 2009, through the Atlas mountains in Berber country: the Grande Traversée de l'Atlas Marocain. For the first time, I was accompanied by a mule, known as Mimi. My affection for these long-eared companions was born.

In 2012, I set off on a long six-month adventure: from April to November 2012, I traveled through the American Rockies, up through the states of New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. I was fulfilling my dream of making a long journey on horseback... or muleback, I should say! It was the Continental Divide Trail.

FrenchSmile is my trail name, which is the nickname given by fellow hikers on long-distance trails through the USA, like the Continental Divide Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail.
